It’s hard to believe but see for yourself: the sky above Katowice is just perfect!

Zaczęłam wczoraj szyć dwie spódniczki, ale dziś utknęłam na znanym mi od dawna problemie “nadal za szeroko w talii”. Nie będę marnować tej pięknej pogody na dopasowywanie spódnic, bo nie wiadomo, kiedy znowu będziemy mieć tyle słońca. Idę się napawać!

I started sewing two skirts yesterday but today I got stuck at the familiar point of „still too wide around the waist.” I’m not going to waste this incredible weather on fitting the skirts because such a sunny day might not happen again soon. I’m off to take delight in the sunshine!

Pierwsze truskawki | First strawberries

Jak to jest, że na truskawki się czeka bardziej niż na inne owoce? Wstałam dziś rano i wiedziałam, że na Dzień Dziecka muszę zrobić ciastka z truskawkami i bitą śmietaną.

How is it that you wait for strawberries more than for other fruits? I got up today and I just knew I had to make biscuits with strawberries and whipped cream to celebrate Children’s Day.

Nie było ostatnio czasu na sztrikowanie, ale jutro zapowiedzieli nam na rano trzygodzinną przerwę w dostawie prądu i zamierzam spędzić ten czas z drutami w ręce. Pogoda zwariowała całkowicie (1 czerwca mam na sobie bawełniane rajtuzy); co dzień staję przed szafą i nie mam w co się ubrać, bo wszystkie moje ubrania dzielą się na dwie kategorie: zimowe albo letnie. Na zimowe za ciepło, na letnie za zimno, i nie mam wyboru, tylko muszę sobie sprawić jeszcze ze dwa rozpinane sweterki, i parę kamizelek. Nie powiem, żeby mnie to specjalnie martwiło!

There’s been no time for knitting recently but tomorrow morning the electricity will be down for some three hours and I’m planning to spend all that time with my needles and wool. The weather has gone crazy (I’m wearing thick cotton tights on 1 June); I search my wardrobe every morning and feel I’ve got nothing to wear, as all my clothes fall in the category of either summer or winter clothing. It’s too warm for the winter ones and too cold for the summer ones, and I’ve no choice but make myself at least two cardigans and a couple of vests. Not that I really mind!

Coś miłego na sobotę | Something nice for Saturday

Poszłam wczoraj na zakupy w poszukiwaniu eleganckich, wygodnych białych butów na płaskim obcasie. Te nie są może bardzo eleganckie, ale po prostu nie mogłam nie kupić takiego klasyka.

I went shopping yesterday, looking for elegant, comfortable, flat white shoes. These are not perhaps very elegant but I couldn’t resist buying such a classic thing.

Plany na dziś: poprawić eseje studentów, napisać list, wysadzić bazylię do ogródka i pomalować paznokcie na różowo. I zrobić ciasto na jutro – eksperyment, czekoladowe z mięta i bitą śmietaną. Życzę wszystkim wspaniałego weekendu!

Plans for today: correct the students’ essays, write a letter, plant basil out into the garden, and paint my nails pink. And make a cake for tomorrow – an experiment with chocolate and mint cream. Have a great weekend!
