Socktoberfest 2009

Knitting along with the TTL KAL was so much fun! It’s just a pair of socks, identical with at least 543 other pairs (so many on Ravelry), but they came out so lovely I no longer care if I can ever think of a reasonable way to wear them.

Model Pattern: Mystery Socks, Through the Loops

One of the socks was knit on DPNs, the other on circular needles. I don’t know why but I preferred the latter way – I had the impression of being more in control of what was going on with all those stitches.

Both socks are the same except for the top part. I had this idea to try and turn the pattern so that it will go in a different direction on each sock.

I enjoyed the leaf pattern a lot, and how the stitches kept moving even though there was no cabling involved, and that it was so easy to follow and somehow in spite of that looks as if it were complicated enough.

A moja ulubiona część skarpetek to palce. Dwa liście kończące motyw pionowy i kanciastość tej całej geometrii – piękne.

And my favourite part of the sock is the toe part, with the two leaves at the end of the vertical motive, and the rather angular look all this geometry gives to the toes. Beautiful.

In fact, I enjoyed the knitting so much, and the actual socks are so nice to wear, that I’ve begun to consider knitting a pair of tights!

Thanks to everybody for voting in the poll! The results clearly show that you prefer knitting to cake and I’m happy you do. It’s not that I don’t like baking, but if I’d wanted a baking blog, I would have started one. As there were also a few voices for the cake, so there’ll be some cake from time to time.

And now that October is over and November has come, we can move on to some more substantial knitting. There’s cables coming on – stay tuned!

It seems making two identical socks is not that easy.

I was on a train back from Gliwice, happily knitting the toe part of the second sock, when it started to be obvious that something was very wrong. The stitch count was wrong. After all, 28 and 24 are not the same. Frog and correct.

Czas na pytania | Question time

Pytań będzie dwa.

There will be two questions.

Pierwszy to Druidess Beret, a drugi Buttercup Beret. No to pierwsze pytanie: który lepszy?

I’ve been thinking about my lovely green wool (even though Zosia quite accidentally broke my size 4 needles) and about the beret I’m going to make from it. I’ve found two berets I like, more as an inspiration then as a knitting must. Could you just take a quick look and tell me which one you like better? The first one is Druidess Beret, the other – Buttercup Beret. I’ll just tell you in advance that probably I won’t be making any of them, or rather something in between – Druidess has too many cables and bobbles and I would simply run out of yarn, and Buttercup is a bit too simple. So here’s the first question: which of the two is better?

The other thing is completely different. Statistics don’t lie – here’s my page loads for the last fortnight:

Pytanie i różne możliwe odpowiedzi w dwóch językach. Zapraszam do klikania!

There can be no doubt that i. it’s rapidly grown, ii. the growth happened right after I published the two cake recipes. I’ve been reflecting on it and I’ve decided to ask you. Does this mean you want more recipes? Or was it just the chocolate? Or maybe you’ve just come over from Brahdelt’s blog, as she not only baked the cakes, but also showed them on her site? To make everybody’s lives easier I’ll give the poll option a go. The poll (anonymous) is on your right hand side, with a question and a number of possible answers in Polish and English. It would be lovely if you could just hit the answer you agree with, thus contributing to what this place is. You’re welcome to go and click!
